McLane Case Study – Convenience Store Distribution

McLane Company is a highly successful $28 billion supply chain services company that optimizes the purchase, flow and sale of products from thousands of suppliers to over 36,000 retail grocery locations.  As a leader in the industry with an excellent reputation, McLane wanted to improve their processes but only if the results would maintain or increase quality control. The solution was realized through the high speed sortation of goods which were to waved in reverse route stop sequence by an advanced Warehouse Control System (WCS) which orchestrated the entire operation..

MBI – Jewelry/Collectables

MBI, Inc. is an exceptionally successful, $300 million consumer products company, with an outstanding history of sales and profits since 1969.  The Danbury Mint is one of the nation’s largest marketers of licensed sports collectibles, precision die-cast models, jewelry, and other fine-quality collectibles and licensed products.  The system involved small and large carton sortation, print and apply (PANDA), and a Warehouse Control System (WCS) which interfaced with a Pitney Bowes in line manifesting system.

Rite Aid – Retail/Pharmaceuticals

Rite Aid, with $25.5 billion in revenue and a 2014 EBITDA turnaround to $1.325 billion or 5.4% of revenue, is a leading drugstore chain with a strong national footprint of 4,600 stores and 30 walk-in clinics in 31 states. Rite Aid’s growth strategy includes acquisitions and partnerships, investing in their store base with a goal to complete an additional 1,600 stores by the end of fiscal year 2015, and other initiatives to drive operational inefficiencies and ensure the highest levels of service for customers.  Conveyco integrated multiple order selection modules, a centralized palletizing area, and increased the facilities overall storage capacity by a double digit percentage.

Covidien/Kendall Case Study – Healthcare/Pharmaceuticals

Covidien, a $10 billion global healthcare products leader, manufactures and markets a broad range of wound care, needle and syringes, vascular therapy, urological care, incontinence care, sharps disposal, and nursing care products.  Conveyco integrated several facilities for Covidien (including several for their Kendall brand) in The United States and Canada as well as multiple Design Build engagements in Europe.  This case study for Kendall focuses on the need to automatically palletize finished goods with robotics.  This system featured multiple robotic palletizing cells, equipped with transfer cars to deliver empty pallets and take away fully palletized loads.

Crabtree and Evelyn – Retail

Crabtree & Evelyn’s vision is to transform everyday rituals into extraordinarily pleasurable experiences. C&E has grown from one family-owned store to an international brand renowned for its fragrances, body care products, fine foods and beautifully packaged gifts. C&E currently has a strong retail presence in more than 65 countries, with over 200 branded retail stores.  This case study discusses improvements made to their Retail and E-commerce operations at their flagship distribution center in the United States.  The improvements made maximized accuracy and dramatically reduce labor by improving picker productivity with Pick To Light (PTL) technology and a layout that facilitated Value Added Services (VAS) processing such as gift wrapping.
